I'm an Australian mum, living here in Salt Lake City, Utah since 2021. I have two kids aged 9 and 7. I love being a mum, but I truly believe my purpose here on earth is to help people.
A bit about me... I began my journey in health and fitness in 2009 when I purchased a gym. I had the gym for around 6 years. During this time I completed my certificates 3 and 4 in personal training and worked as a personal trainer. I really enjoyed this!
I had my first baby in 2013. My husband was FIFO (Fly in fly out- home 1 week, away 1 week) on a remote mine site in Western Australia. Navigating a business and a newborn on my own was challenging. As it was a 24 hour gym, I would often get calls in the middle of the night in which I felt helpless. I felt like I was doing two things badly (being a mum and business owner) and so decided to focus on my baby and sell the gym.
In 2015 we moved to a remote town in Western Australia, Tom Price for my husbands work. Here I got pregnant with my second baby whilst simultaneously starting a personal training business. I was busy again, but enjoyed the engagement and helping people.
After moving back to Perth in 2017, I started my study to become an enrolled nurse. Nursing is something I truly have a passion for. I loved helping those that were in a vulnerable situation. I watched people die and gained a true, deeper appreciation for health and life in general. From here, I worked on an acute medical ward. It was extremely busy and I learnt and witnessed a lot. I learnt some amazing life lessons. One of the most important being that life is incredibly short and not to be taken for granted.
My husband received an opportunity to move to Salt Lake City for work in 2021. This was right at the beginning of the covid pandemic. I was the only one in our family vaccinated due to my job. I remember the polarizing responses when I told both colleagues, friends, family and patients. I remember one doctor said "you know covid is really bad over there right?" as if I was a fool for considering it. Most of the older patients had such a glint of excitement in their eyes when I told them, encouraging me to get out there and go for it (insert many a 'life is short' quote here). However, many friends and family thought we were crazy! So we did it...
If I had not learnt those invaluable lessons as a nurse, I really don't think I would have agreed to take such a risk with our children. I would have quite happily stayed in the comfort and safety of Perth (WA actually closed its borders during covid! We had to apply to leave). For the record, so far only my husband has actually had covid (that we know of!). I'm so glad we took the leap. We have seen so much of this beautiful country and gotten to experience things we never would have if we stayed in Perth.
So here we are, in a new country. It was scary but exhilarating to have a change. New routines, new shops, new foods etc. I became uneasy being a 'stay at home mum' pretty quickly. I used the first year to get the kids and family settled and to try to enjoy the ride and reduce some stress. It took me nearly 2 years to completely understand I had been unknowingly stressed for the past 8-10 years. All of a sudden I began to enjoy my kids. I looked at life differently. I became a paraeducator at the kids school for the special need k/grade 1 class. This was such an eye opener. But not what I was set on this earth to do...
During this time of solitude and self discovery I have come to the understanding that my passion is health and fitness.
I have completed a certificate on designing a sustainable nutrition plan through Harvard Executive Education and am currently studying health coaching through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I look forward to working with families and individuals to make healthy meal planning a part of a overall health lifestyle. I am a big advocate for making small changes to see big differences. Consistency is key. Depending on the goal, it make be a long game, but it will truly be so worth it.
I look forward to hearing about YOU and how I can help make some changes or create some clarity around meal planning.
